ENDING PERIOD POVERTY: MAKING SUPPLIES ACCESSIBLE
Lack of access to period supplies can lead to health problems and lost opportunities for women, especially impacting low-income women. One in five reports missing work, school, or similar events due to a lack of these supplies. This can result in overstretching product use or using inadequate substitutes, increasing the risk of infection.
An overwhelming 88% of women believe that period products are a basic necessity, but only 4% are aware of local resources offering free or reduced-cost period supplies. Additionally, state and federal safety net program funds cannot be used to purchase these essential items.
